Vegetation management is key to preserving channel capacity for flow, and providing access for maintenance activities along the 33 miles of channel that we are responsible for.
With 2022 having extra rainfall, we’ve increased mowings up to four per year for most dams and removing debris removal from trash racks.
Often there are special projects that address the landowner as well as the Chippewa Subdistrict. This is a maintenance crossing that was installed as part of the original Chippewa Project. This crossing is needed to help maintain the channel and is often used by the landowner to gain access to their farm fields on the other side of the channel. The landowners needed use of heavy machinery to cross the channel has necessitated maintenance to preserve the stability of the channel crossing for the landowner and Reach RS06.
