Summary of maintenance and special projects completed in 2012.
Mowing the Dams / Channels
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Dam Safety regulations require flood control dams to be mown at least once per year and preferably twice a year. Four of the dams currently are mown twice a year, the other four are mown by the land owners anywhere from one to three times a year.
Annual Inspections
A formal Dam Inspection occurs each year in the Spring. The wet dams have a valve that needs to be kept in working order, and is used to lower the level of the pool when necessary.
Dam 5-D - erosion repair
A small gully had formed along the west abutment at Dam 5-D (West Branch Steele Ditch). The area was repaired to prevent serious damage to the dam.
Dam VII-C - trash rack replacement
The trash rack, shown here, located at Dam VII-C (Little Chippewa Creek), near Orville had failed, and no longer protected the Principal Spillway.
